There is still time to register for our Voice Workshop at Concordia this weekend! We’ll meet on Friday, 7/29, from 6 to 8 pm, and on Saturday, 7/30, from 10 am to 3 pm. The fee is only $50 and includes materials and lunch on Saturday. Below is a brief history on our Specialist, Russell Kyzar!
Russell Kyzar is a native of Mississippi. He graduated from Mississippi College (’76) with a Bachelor of Music Ed. degree and from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (’78) with a Master of Church Music degree. He served as a music minister for 13 yrs. in churches in
Mississippi and Texas before he and his wife, Melinda, began overseas service with the International Mission Board in 1987. Their first assignment was in Costa Rica (10 yrs) where he taught local church musicians through the seminary, music camps, music school, and training conferences. Other international assignments were Russia (8 yrs), Cuba (2 yrs), and the Czech
Republic (6 yrs.) In each culture and language, the Kyzars were involved in church planting and
training local church musicians to lead their congregations in worship. Upon retiring from the mission field in 2015, Russell was invited to the staff at First Baptist Church Clinton, Mississippi. In 2020 he and Melinda retired to Jackson to be near family. Six of their 12 grandchildren (and their parents!) live here in Jackson. Russell and Melinda are members of Northbrook Community Church in Three Way. They are excited to participate next month in the mass choir at the Jackson/Madison Co. Bicentennial celebration.
